Subsidence Cover for UK Property

The Guardian have been reporting on the issue of home insurance in the UK for subsidence suffering property.  In a case study on their website a house purchaser remained insured with RSA after the previous homeowner made a claim against their buildings insurance after cracks appeared on the property.  The claim for underpinning reached in excess of £10,000.

Like many people in this scenario, they were told that most insurers would not accept an underpinned property as a new risk and so year in, year out, they remained insured with RSA.

Comparing insurers who could offer subsidence cover though proved difficult as most mainstream companies simply will not offer protection for subsidence property.

The homeowner then attempted to find specialist cover through Bureau Insurance Services and Towergate Strovers.  After a succesful property inspection, much more reasonable rates of less than £700 were offered.
