Operation Semita - Tracking and Recovering Stolen Vehicles

Tracker, the vehicle recovery company, and the police have teamed up in Operation Semita in a bid to recover more stolen vehicles.  A recent two month trial has now been extended with the backing of several insurers, including Trackers owning company, RBS.

Operation Semita is being run (on the force side) by ACPOs (Association of Chief Police Officers) Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service.  It allows police to follow vehicles after they have been stolen.

Any revenue generated from the return of vehicles in the scheme will be split amongst the insurer companies taking part.  The MD of Tracker, Bill Raynal, reported that around half of UK insurers had signed up to the scheme even though some were not satisfied with the returns adding "We have a large number of insurers taking part in the scheme but some want to hold out for a greater percentage. However, we are keen to have all insurers signed up."
