Zurich Report Marine Fraud is Increasing

Zurich, a UK leading marine insurance provider, has released claims statistics which show that marine insurance fraud is on the rise.

In recent months, increased numbers of fradulent boating insurance claims have been made to the insurer.  The rise is sufficient enough that between January and the end of April 2009, the insurer has received more fraudulent marine insurance claims than in the whole of the previous year.

The Head of Navigators and General, James Roberts, said 'the increase could be as a result of rising financial pressure on boat owners during the recession.  One customer who claimed for a stolen boat was later found overseas enjoying a break on the missing craft. We have a very experienced team of claims professionals who work with our fraud investigation team to ensure that these claims are easily separated from those made by honest claimants.'
