Insurance for Learners Should be Cut

Insurance for learners should be minimised this would therefore encourage practising in the family car and help to put safer drivers on the roads.

If people practice driving in the family car before passing their driving test the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) believe they will be safer drivers. The Institute of Advanced Motorists is the UK’s leading road safety charity, dedicated to raising driving standards.

The charity also claims that there is minimal risk of a crash for a learner whilst under the supervision of a family member and therefore insurance policies should reflect this. Neil Grieg director of IAM states that “we would encourage the insurance industry to re-examine the high insurance charges imposed on supervised learner drivers, in the interests of encouraging them to gain maximum practice”.
