Flood Cover Update - End June 2009
Government Grants - Flood Protection Scheme
The government have announced that twenty five local authorities will benefit from the first round of grants from the flood protection scheme. The funding is intended for the use of protective flood measures to homes. The initial funding will allow £3million of the total fund to be used and this will benefit nearly six hundred properties. An additional half a million pounds of funding has been added to the fund specifically to help homes effected by the summer 2007 floods across Gloucestershire and northern England.
Authorities who did not qualify in the first batch of payments will be considered in the second batch of payments.
In further news from the environment agency, it is contacting residents in the Keighley area to arrange meetings to consult on the direction of flood defence in the longer term.

ABI and Flood Insurance
Thisisgloucestershire are reporting that many homeowners in Gloucestershire may find their houses are not able to be insured in the future. According to the news website, the ABI (Association of British Insurers) has said that its members may not carry on offering renewal terms on building insurance policies once the existing agreement with the government expires in 2013.
The deadline reflects the flood strategy proposals that the government is currently preparing.
