E coli Chip Shop Poor Cleanliness Levels
The chip shop linked to a potential E coli outbreak in Wales has been inspected by Wrexham Council and found to be non compliant with many food regulations.
The chip shop received the lowest possible rating from the council in August 2008 at the last inspection. Following this inspection, the council recommended annual checks of the establishment.
Two people, including a 3 year old girl are seriously ill following the outbreak. The chip shop remains closed as the investigation into the e coli outbreak continues.
The council leader, Mr Roberts, reported that the council had recently completed its review of the Pennington report which investigated a break out of e coli in 2005 which killed a boy and rendered over 150 ill. Mr Roberts also reported that the higher risk establishments had been checked but that this fish bar was not amongst them as chip shops tend to represent lower risks than kitchens handling raw meats.
The case goes to highlight the importance of adequate chip shop insurance for owners of takeaways.
