Bradford Hotspot for Car Insurance Fraud
Bradford has been labeled as a hotspot for car insurance crime according to Insurance Times Magazine.
Studies have shown an increase in organised crime syndicates targeting honest people and causing them to have car accidents to create an inflated insurance claim. In these situations, old/low quality cars are used by the syndicates who pick on drivers that look easily distracted, therefore more likely to have an accident.
They then cause an accident via a number of ways, usually breaking suddenly in front of the innocent driver (sometimes with brake lights disabled) and can even include a second car behind the incident to increase the claim further.
According to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), incidents such as this costs the industry £1.6bn every year, which equates to an extra 5% on every car insurance premium.
Over the past 3 years, there have been over 300 arrests and 29 convictions for car insurance fraud.
