PORSCHE CAR INSURANCE From the days of the first VW Beetle prototypes in 1936 Ferdinand Porsche and his company have been associated with air-cooled rear-engined cars - the Beetle-based 356 and in 1964 the seminal 911 continued the tradition. The seventies brought innovation with the 911 Turbo and a change of direction with the front-engined 924 and 928 coupes but the 911, all be it in a new water-cooled design, remains the cornerstone of Porsche's range. Some say that the 928 was supposed to replace the 911 but Porsches loyal fanbase wouldn't let the old car die and its latest versions sell well today alongside the mid-engined Boxster convertible ( a 'budget' Porsche at a mere £31500) and the rather un-Porsche-like Cayenne four-wheel-drive continuing their alliance with VW (the same car is also sold as a VW Touareg). Whilst a Porsche is never going to be a cheap car they do have a reputation as the sensible supercar with maintenance bills nothing like as stratospheric as you'd expect from an Italian thouroughbred, and with so many 911s sold over the years it is possible to pick up a decent secondhand Porsche for the price of a new hatchback - so they're not really out of reach for the average motorist. Insurance groups are however high, so it makes sense to shop around, some classic car specialists can offer limited mileage schemes so have a look around and use a quote service like SuperQuote (link below) to compare these rates to those offered by the major companies.
