Here is a directory of most of the links that might be relevant to the car insuring public. At the moment there are about 15 websites worth visiting for a U.K car insurance quote, and also some general sites of possible interest to the car insuring public (for complaints etc). the AA ( Automobile Association ) AA insurance from a range of well known British car insurance companies. The AA are a very large intermediary, so they must know something about what we want. Often good on price because of special schemes they negotiate with the insurance companies. This site is recommended. March 2001

Churchill Churchill have cheap car insurance for most people and they are particularly good for any motorist who pays above average. They are one of the original direct writers in Britain and their website is better than most. Churchill are owned by Winterthur - a big Swiss insurance company.

Egg Part of Prudential. Egg is an online bank, not an insurance company. They deal with a panel of insurers and so are intermediaries. Egg have announced figures showing that almost nobody has bought car insurance here - March 2001

Elephant.co.uk Elephant are part of Admiral Insurance, a new branch of the well known direct insurer. A refreshing approach and one of the better car insurance quote websites. CAREFUL - these guys are internet only - the phone costs 60p per minute - but this IS reflected in very good rates. 9 April 01

esure are a new insurance company formed by Peter Wood, who founded Direct Line, and Halifax/ Bank of Scotland. They only accept drivers with maximum no claims bonus ( 4 or more years). They have some very good premiums and are the fastest growing insurance company in Britain.

Screentrade An independent insurance broker's site, one of the first proper online sites in Britain. Bought out in 2001 by Lloyds TSB Insurance Services .

Tesco Tesco does some very good quotes for car insurance. The insurance comes from a company called UKI, who are owned by DirectLine.

Ironsure. One of the first proper online offerings from a real insurance company - closed down in mid 2000 when they were taken over by QBE. Nobody wanted to buy the site even at the height of dotcom mania and the customers were given 5 weeks to find insurance elsewhere ( at least they got their money back )!!
