Superquote Terms and Glossary: ULR, Uninsured Loss Recovery - Legal Expenses

Most car and house insurers will charge you a small additional premium for an add on product known as uninsured loss recovery (ULR) or legal expenses.

This product is normally an add-on to your insurance contract and typically sosts about £20 on a motor insurance policy.

the purpose of the product is to help you recover losses that were not insured from a third party who was at fault in a claim.  An easy example would be if john was hit whilst driving his car and not at fault.  Not only would his insurer want to recover the damage to Johns car from the third party insurer through the principle of subrogation but john may have other losses too.

These might include the costs of a hire car, for example.  This is where Johns ULR product would be useful as it would allow John the support to reclaim those costs from the third party too. Often legal packages also include defence costs too.
