Superquote Glossary: Insurer / Insurance Provider / Broker

An insurer is a provider of insurance.  An insurer may be made up of a syndicate, of which the oldest and most famous is the group of syndicates known as Lloyds.  Many insurers use reinsurance firms to support their underwriting risks.  Superquote has a list of personal lines providers in the UK in our insurer guide.

An insurance broker is a business which acts on behalf of their clients in the act of arranging cover with insurers and in sorting out claims.

An intemediary generally is a broker.
