Superquote Glossary - Injury
Injury is damage to the body or the functionality of the body caused by any external influence. Injuries may be physical such as bruising, wounding, fractures and burns or may be chemical. Injury can be caused by accident, intent and in insurance, blame and responsibility is essential once injury has occured.
Many isnurance policies cover the policyholder from the financial consequences of injury, either personal accident cover or covering a policyholder against the liability of causing injury to a third party. This means that if a policyholder (either a person or organisation) is responsible for causing an injury, the insurance policy covers the payment to the injured third party.
In some areas, this is a legal requirement, such as in car insurance, or employers liability insurance, if you are a business that employs any staff. Public liability insurance can be very important cover for businesses who may be at risk from causing injury to third parties such as electricians, plumbers, demolition workers and builders.
If your business gives advice and that is found to be poor, a professional indemnity insurance policy may help protect you from the financial consequence of a third party successfully taking legal action against the business from an injury sustained following advice given. For example, if a construction concultant gave advice on a building that was subsequently poorly build and caused injury, then a professional indemnity policy would be the cover required to protect the consultant.
