Superquote Insurance Glossary: Claims

Most people know that a claim is made to an insurer or broker following a loss.

Once a claim has been started, a number of processes may occur.  The insurer will evaluate the claim asking the client to complete a claim form.  For some smaller claims, these forms are no longer required.  The information gathered by claim form or by phone is then used to assess whether the loss that the individual or business has suffered is as a result of an insured event.

That is to say, do the terms of the contract of insurance cover the policyholder for the loss that has occured.

A loss adjuster may be appointed to help in the assessment of the claim.  They act as a go between from the insurer to policyholder and although they are paid by the insurer, they are appointed to be an impartial party, although this means they do not represent the client.

In the event of a car insurance accident, you may be glad of our emergency car kit, which helps drivers in the event of an accident.
